David J. Field, president and CEO of Entercom Communications Corp. stated, "Denver and Portland are natural choices for the next phase of our HD Radio roll-out as they are high tech markets where we have a strong presence. Entercom looks forward to working with retailers like Car Toys and Ultimate Electronics to promote HD Radio in these markets."
“To ensure the widespread adoption of HD Radio, we initially focused our efforts on establishing a critical mass of radio broadcasters and retailers in select major markets,” said Robert Struble, president and chief executive officer of iBiquity Digital Corporation. “With the move into Portland and Denver, Entercom has shown a desire to bring this exciting new technology to additional markets, which will allow retailers like Car Toys and Ultimate Electronics to accelerate rollout efforts.”
The commercial rollout of HD Radio technology commenced in 2003 when AM and FM stations around the country began digital broadcasting and continued with the launch of HD Radio receivers at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2004. More than 300 radio stations in over 100 U.S. markets across 39 states have licensed HD Radio technology and are live, or in the process of going live, with digital broadcasts.
