Sony to Market LocationFree "Place-Shifting" Products Under VAIO Brand

Following up on an announcement earlier this year that it would pre-installed LocationFree® Player Software into its VAIO® notebooks, Sony today said it would begin marketing its LocationFree hardware products under the VAIO brand in the United States. The VAIO LF-V30 Base Station will be the first product to fall under the new moniker.

With Sony's LocationFree "place-shifting" technology you can access live TV, your personal video recorder or DVD player, and view that content on your notebook PC -- via the Internet. Enjoy TV programs, movies and personal video content -- all streamed from your Base Station -- anywhere broadband connectivity allows.

Benefits of the VAIO LF-V30 Base Station to include: In addition to VAIO notebooks just about any Internet-connected Windows-based laptop, Windows Mobile Pocket PC (additional software required from third party) or PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable) device can be turned into a personal TV utilizing Sony's "place-shifting" technology.

The VAIO Base Station will go for about $250 and will be available at www.sony.com/pr/v30 starting in September.
