I have an Alpine CDA9851 in my boat. It is only powering 4 6" speakers. When you turn the volume up past 19 it shuts off completely and then comes back on slowly building volume until it shuts off again. If you only set the balance or fade to only run 2 speakers it works fine and you can turn the volume up until it distorts. Any ideas? I have an amp but it only powers the sub.

of course i have an idea, and a answer, your over taxing the headunits internal amp. it's not meant to power 4 large speakers esp marine types. a the most it can do 2 comfortably. the proper way to do it is amplify your speakers and sub or amp 4 speakers let the headunit power 2 . i'd amp all 4 and that would cure your problem.
