why do aftermarket head units sound better with speakers? is it the wattage?

i have a sony cdx-mp40 head unit that puts out 52 watts for 4 channels. my fren has the new pioneer avic f90bt that puts out 50 watts to 4 speakers. what's better??? sound quality wise?

The pioneer is Far superior to the sony HU, in SQ, and all other aspects of the HU.And I highly doubt yours puts out rated power. Sorry man, His is far better then yours. Pioneers entry level HU are better then sonys High end HU's.

Oh and also one of the reasons aftermarket HU's sound better then stock HU's is generally because the aftermarket HU's have better THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) and S/n(Signal to noise Ratio)
